Our philosophy...
With cost often foremost in a homeowner's mind, the temptation is sometimes to cut corners. But in the construction business, shortcuts are almost always a false economy, leading to greater difficulties and expense in the long run.
MHS-Works does the job right first time, with an emphasis on quality and craftsmanship, thereby ensuring long-term satisfaction for our clients.
Sponsorship
As a keen cyclist and triathlete, Matt is delighted to be able to sponsor the Triathlon Club of San Diego and the Moment Cycle Sport racing team.
About our logo...Matt developed an interest in tools at an early age. By 18 months he was already unscrewing 240-volt electrical sockets from the wall. He was fascinated with the screw principle, so was delighted to be given a hand drill for his fourth birthday. He loved to drill things, observing the smooth rotary-to-linear motion conversion of the drill bit. And within days, several books, some prized pieces of wooden furniture and one unlucky teddy bear had received carefully-drilled holes.
And thats why the logo is a drill...

Matt Sparks
Matt has been living and working in California since 2000. He was born in England to architect parents and learned many of his craftsman skills helping to turn their run-down English farmhouse into a family home. With a workshop at home, he was designing and building projects from an early age, and, after passing an advanced diploma in electronics, he decided to train for a B.Ed. in Design and Technology.
After graduating from Sheffield Hallam University, he taught design and technology, including wood, metal, plastics and graphic design skills, at the Birkdale Boys school and then at The Doha College, a British international school in Qatar.
Matt then spent two years working in the oil and gas industry in the Arabian Gulf. Whilst there, he oversaw the operation and maintenance of heavy industrial plant and supervised pre-commissioning tests on pipelines, refineries, offshore platforms and the Oman LNG plant.
During this time, he also designed a series of containerized mobile workshops and materials stores that could be lifted by crane onto trucks, ships and offshore platforms. The designs were completed under his supervision and are now used extensively in the Middle East.
In California, Matt worked as the owner's superintendant for all stages of construction of the downtown condominium block at 350 West Ash, San Diego, and co-founded Construction Imaging and Archiving Inc., a construction quality control company.
